Don't think you gonna prance up in marriage with the mentality "this is who I am" because ...if you do you will have some serious conflict. A SHIFT must take place. Something should click, snap, move... as you prepare to enter into this covenant and go through the journey. Its a process yes, but the be aware of the shifting. Be intentional. ✔Mentally... there are key things you must understand (for ex. You are no longer single)... your mindset (I/me/mine➡️us/we/ours) ✔Spiritually...deepening your relationship with Christ ....and walking with him to recieve wisdom! When the inside begins to change it will be evident on the outside. ✔Physically...that inward change begins to manifest on the outside. Walking the walk... how you carry yourself, your attitude, who you hanging with...how you treat your spouse. ✔Emotionally...self control, negativity vs positivity and wholeness. What is your EQ? Your spouse will need you to be emotionally available! As you take the proper steps spiritually, this area will align. We couldn't agree more! We have seen some MAJOR growth in these last 5 years of marriage based off of prayers, faith and trial and error! We started from the bottom yall...grad students making <40k in the DC area, but living (....and def not budgeting together)! We knew greater was coming! A simple prayer I prayed over us in the engagement and newlywed years: Lord, help us to be better financial stewards. We want to do better with what we have now so that we will be able to handle more in the future. In jesus name, Amen. He actually made us recite this during the exchange of our wedding vows just to make sure we and everybody witnessing understood the difference. Disappointment in marriage is REAL yall. There are marital lies that we have to continue to work hard to debunk so we don't have unnecessary disappointment. Then there is the disappointment that will come because... well we are imperfect humans. 🤷🏽‍♀️ We WILL disappoint our spouse. Its just a fact. And once we do, we should draw closer to them and find ways to improve instead of letting pride sneak in and create distance, apathy or resentment. #forevermarriages #keepfighting Joseph made it very clear during our engagement that there was no back up plan. Divorce was simply not an option (he made it sound funny, but he meant every word). We made this agreement before marriage so when hardship or disappointment came no one was going to entertain divorce/separation. This is forever. Is that not what Matt 16:9 is telling us? We hear people say, "well if it doesn't work, I can just..." Nope! Wait right there. It may be ok to have a backup plan for your career, or weekend plans, but not marriage yall.
